Typescript extract from letter from Francis James Dallett Jr. of 324 Overhill Road, Wayne, Pennsylvania, dated 23rd February 1954. 'Possibly it would be of interest to Messrs Lionel Green and Norman Black who are writing an historical sketch of Merton Church to know that the Dallett family was associated with the Parish from 1712 to 1820 and four generations served as Church-wardens. Richard Dallet, Esq (1739-1813), founder of the dole, was a wealthy farmer who lived at 'Merton Hall', a house at the west corner of Kingston Road and Merton Hall Road, opposite the site of the 'Leather Bottle' [...]

Additional text in manuscript: 'Merton Hall belonged to Mr Quintin Hogg from about 1890 until his death. The playing fields adjoining were used by the Poly until they were sold in 1905 and the ground at Chiswick purchased. S M Eedy.'
