Note
This hood is known as a Dean Burgon hood. It takes its name from John William Burgon [1813-1888], a nineteenth century academic at Oxford. Burgon became Dean of Chichester Cathedral in 1876 and was afterwards known as Dean Burgon.
Note
Each hood represents the type of degree collected and the level of the award; each one is distinctive for its style and colouring. The 3 different hoods are the Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate.
