Administrative history
Manchester-born John Richmond (1960-) designed his first collection under his own name after he graduated from Kingston in 1982 while also freelancing for Joseph Tricot, Emporio Armani and Fiorucci. He launched Richmond-Cornejo with Maria Cornejo in 1984 and re-established his own label after their partnership ended in 1987, taking over their shop in Newburgh Street in London's Soho. He launched a lower priced line, Destroy, in February 1990 and in 1998 designed 'John by John Richmond' for department store Debenhams. He became known particularly for his leather jackets, club wear and for dressing rock and pop musicians.

Scope and content
Double breasted jacket in a deep red wool fabric. Jacket has a notched lapel without a buttonhole and is front fastening. Four buttons in the same fabric as the rest of the jacket, sit at the front, the jacket fastening via two of them. For additional stability, a single black, plastic button is attached to the lining of the jacket on the left side, fastening through buttonhole on the right side which is concealed when the jacket is closed. An angled, welted pocket is at chest level on the left side. A flapped, jetted pocket sits either side of the waist. On each side of the front of the jacket, between the opening and the side seams, are two darts which start at chest level and end at the waist pockets. There is a central seam at the back of the jacket and no back vent. Either side of the back seam there are darts which run from the shoulder seams at shoulder blade level and curve until they run parallel with the central back seam, where they straighten and run down to the hem. Halfway down each arm are two thin bands of black binding. Above this sits John Rocha's JR monogram with a cross. The jacket is lined in a black viscose fabric. There are no internal pockets.
