Administrative history
Manchester-born John Richmond (1960-) designed his first collection under his own name after he graduated from Kingston in 1982 while also freelancing for Joseph Tricot, Emporio Armani and Fiorucci. He launched Richmond-Cornejo with Maria Cornejo in 1984 and re-established his own label after their partnership ended in 1987, taking over their shop in Newburgh Street in London's Soho. He launched a lower priced line, Destroy, in February 1990 and in 1998 designed 'John by John Richmond' for department store Debenhams. He became known particularly for his leather jackets, club wear and for dressing rock and pop musicians.

Scope and content
Leather waistcoat with a rounded, high neckline that gives the garment the look of a top instead of a classic waistcoat. Waistcoat fastens with a zip that runs the length of the front from the hem to the neck. Garment is comprised of multiple panels. The front is predominantly silver, with a panel either side of the zip that measures 14cm at the widest point and runs from the neckline to the hem. Adjacent to the silver panels as you move towards the side seams are narrower, gold panels which measure just short of 3cm. There is a slight curve in both of these panels, mirroring the cut of the waistcoat and how it might sit on the body when worn. The remainder of the front is made from black leather. On these black leather panels, approximately 8cm from the hem, are four poppers, two on each side. In-between each of these poppers is a dart which is 18.5cm in length, ending at the hem. The back of the waistcoat is made from a black, satin fabric. A seam runs the length of the back. The lining of the waistcoat is made from this same fabric.
