Administrative history
Manchester-born John Richmond (1960-) designed his first collection under his own name after he graduated from Kingston in 1982 while also freelancing for Joseph Tricot, Emporio Armani and Fiorucci. He launched Richmond-Cornejo with Maria Cornejo in 1984 and re-established his own label after their partnership ended in 1987, taking over their shop in Newburgh Street in London's Soho. He launched a lower priced line, Destroy, in February 1990 and in 1998 designed 'John by John Richmond' for department store Debenhams. He became known particularly for his leather jackets, club wear and for dressing rock and pop musicians.

Scope and content
Trousers in a Glen Check [also known as the Glen Urquhart Check or Tweed]; a woven twill design of vertical and horizontal stripes consisting of large and small checks. Squares of houndstooth check can be found at regular intervals where the the darker and lighter areas meet. The check is predominantly black, grey and cream in colour with fine red, horizontal and vertical lines at regular intervals. Trousers are front fastening via a concealed zip with a small black button at the waist. A second button is stitched to the inside of the waistband and fastens through a buttonhole on a concealed tab that extends from the right of the waistband. Although there is no external waistband, there are six 8cm loops at the waist to enable a belt to be worn. Vertical, jetted pockets with a zip fastening sit either side of the waist, just forward of the side seams. A jetted zip fastened pocket can be found at at the rear on the right side. Also at the back, John Rocha's JR monogram design is stitched in red at the hem of each trouser leg. The waistband is lined in the same lightweight, black fabric that is also used to construct the pockets. The remainder of the trousers are unlined.
