Black lightly padded down-filled jacket with curved raglan sleeve seam. The body has a folded flap which conceals two zipped pockets, one opening downwards, the other upwards. The flap is secured to the front with a short line of top stitching just below the lower zip. The centre front closes with a black plastic zip, covered with a flap secured with four separate lengths of velcro. The zip continues up to the top of the hood front. The lining is quilted in a squared stitch pattern.
There is a strap on the inside from the waist to the shoulder, secured with a press stud, which allows the coat to be transformed into a backpack. To transform, the strap is undone and brought to the outside, then fastened around the hem. The centre front is zipped, arms turned inside the jacket. Made in Italy.
Mandarina DuckShort green nylon jacket featuring two front slash pockets with snap closures and two internal slash pockets. It has a green wool ribbed collar, cuffs, and hem, showing some wear with holes. The left sleeve includes a zipped pen pocket with a leather puller. The jacket fastens with a 1952 metal Crown zip, alongside a zig-zag stitch internal placket on the right side. Faded remnants of the US Air Force wings and star insignia are visible on the left shoulder sleeve.
The jacket includes back shoulder darts and two front snap-closure tabs under the arms, designed to secure headset and microphone wiring leads and a heavy parachute harness. A nylon tab sewn onto the left chest allows the attachment of an oxygen mask retainer clip. These design features were later omitted in the MA-1 flight jacket model.
United States Air ForceBlack leather jacket with removable, panelled sleeves that attach at the shoulders via buckles and leather straps. The cut and design of the jacket take inspiration from metal armour. The main body fastens at the centre front with four worn black metal press studs and features four pockets—two on each side. The lower pockets have flaps, while the upper pockets are welted.
The sleeves are constructed in multiple parts, with a shaped elbow piece connecting the upper and lower arm sections. The inside of the elbow has a curved cut-out, covered by a folded circular patch. The sleeves attach to a shaped shoulder piece, which is buckled to the body of the jacket at the shoulder neckline.
