Dark navy blue short jacket with peaked lapels, gold buttons and gold braid stripes around cuffs. The jacket has six button holes down each lapel and the front of the jacket. It has six gold coloured metal shank buttons embossed with the Royal Navy emblem of a fouled anchor under the St Edwards crown worn by Elizabeth II. There are also two separate buttons linked with a metal clip to secure the jacket. The buttons are back stamped with 'GIEVES'. On each lower sleeve are three bands of goldwork braid, the third band also has a loop - these are for the officer rank of Commander. The jacket is lined in black rayon (or silk?) sateen and has lines of quilting running vertically from the hem to the armhole on the back panels. The sleeves are lined in white twilled rayon (or silk?). There is a tailors label inside the right lower inside pocket.

Peaked cap made of blue-grey wool and black woven mohair band around the crown. It has the emblems of the Royal Air Force at the front: a gold coloured metal eagle over a goldwork embroidery wreath, surmounted by a red velvet and gold wire embroidered St Edward's Crown emblem. Around the front of the hat crown across the peak is the chinstrap - two thin bands of patent leather that cross over each other and are kept in place with loops of the same material. The top part of the crown of the cap has a piped edge and there are two black metal eyelet holes on the left side. The inside hat band is tan coloured leather and the top of the crown is lined in brown semi-transparent plastic. Royal Air Force
Gieves Cotton Flying Helmet

Flying helmet made from a cream cotton / canvas fabric. Helmet is shaped around the face and has a chin strap with a buckle fastening. A further two buckles can be found on the crown of the head and there is a flap with a three popper fastening over each ear to allow communications equipment to be worn. There is padding underneath these flaps and the helmet is still fitted with the original gosport tubes receiver [communications equipment ear pieces] at the ears [the tubes are missing]. The inside of the helmet has a cotton lining with the original printed label still visible [although faded]. Gieves Ltd
