It was renamed Gieve & Co. in 1887 and, after expanding to London in the early 1900s, the company became Gieves Ltd. From its beginnings Gieves was renowned for its associations with the Royal Navy, tailoring officers uniforms and gaining a number of Royal appointments and warrants. They merged with Hawkes & Co in 1974, continuing to trade as Gieves & Hawkes.
