Scope and content
Letter from Quintin Hogg to Dr Gladstone inviting Dr Gladstone to become a member of the proposed new Governing Body of the Polytechnic. Hogg is 'most anxious that the Christian element should be kept well to the front, while it is manifest that an Institute receiving a large grant of Public money must keep clear from the very appearance of proselytising, yet only 'Politics' and 'Sectarian teaching' are excluded by our proposed Statutes, leaving it free for our boys to have their Parliamentary Debating Society and the Governing Body to carry on such unsectarian Christian Work as they may reasonably desire.'
