Letter on The North British and Mercantile Insurance Company, 61 Threadneedle Street headed paper to 'my precious boy'. The letter gives advice on the intended recipient's 'doubts and difficulties'. Hogg offers advice and writes: 'Don't confuse theology and religion. the one is a science to be proved or disproved - the other is a life to be lived'.
The envelope is annotated 'Quintin's unfinished letter found lying on his desk' in Alice Hogg's hand.

This letter was sent to the Polytechnic by Hogg's grandson, see HOG/1/1/13, along with typescript transcripts of two other letters written by Hogg to his son (see HOG/1/1/14 and HOG/1/1/15). See also HOG/3/5/1.
A photographic copy, framed and captioned with a note stating 'It is not known for whom the letter was intended, but this is immaterial for it is applicable to 'Poly boys' of all time.' was destroyed by the Archivist due to poor condition 21/5/13.
