The inspiration for the brand's naturally aged jeans comes from the way in which wines, cheeses and cured meats are matured over time. As an experiment, 60 garments were left outside for between 200 and 350 days to 'age' in a vineyard in Altavilla, a mountain town in Irpinia, Italy. During this time, the garments came into contact with the elements (rain , snow, sun, wind, ice, grazing of animals, tillage). The garments were hung and left in the same position for the entire aging period, almost never being touched. The are two phases to this process:
- Cold ageing phase (autumn and winter) in which the garment changes its structure thanks to the action of frost and bad weather, increasing the thickness of the cotton fibers which tend to widen. In this way the fit of the jeans is much more comfortable than its raw version.
- Hot ageing phase (spring and summer) where the action of the heat and the sun's rays modifies the shade of the dye, on the basis of the high photosensitivity of the indigo itself.
The Natural ageing process creates a new denim product with aesthetic characteristics that imitate garments that are tens and tens of years old; and unlike stone washing and other denim processes, no harmful pollutants are released into the environment.
