Scope and content

Headed notepaper: Cotterill & Cromb, Literary Agents, Lennox House, Norfolk Street, Strand, London WC2. Signed.
'We have received the following letter from John Leng & Co. Ltd.:-
'We have an idea that we might in the near future be able to use again 'THE GIRL HE THOUGHT HE MARRIED' by H.J. ALLINGHAM. You may remember that we bought this from you in 1923 and in 1928 we acquired the sixpenny and under book rights. I shall be glad to know whether the story has appeared anywhere else than with ourselves, as this would naturally weigh with us in considering another use.'
The original title of this story was 'TRICKED INTO MARRIAGE'. It appeared serially in 'The Mascot' in 1924, and Leng's bought the Under-Sixpenny book rights in December 1927 for 'White heather Novels'. According to our records, therefore, the story has appeared only in the Leng publications, and, on hearing that it is agreeable to you, we will write Leng's to that effect.'
