Single breasted, morning coat [or tailcoat] in black wool, with peak lapels. A single buttonhole is found on the left lapel. An angled, welted pocket is at the chest. The coat is front fastening via a black plastic button. Three smaller, black, plastic buttons are found at each cuff; and two more at the back of the coat. The coat is knee-length and characterised by a split [or vent] at the rear section of the skirt [known as the tails], with the front of the skirt cut away. The jacket is lined and there is a jetted pocket on either side of the chest.

This type of coat was originally worn by men in the 19th century when horse riding. The tails fastened to the the buttons on the reverse of the jacket, keeping them out of the way when the wearer was on horseback.
