Rip Curl was started in 1969 by Doug Warbrick and Brian Singer in Torquay, Victoria, Australia when they began to make surf boards. Later that year they also began producing wetsuits. In 1973 Rip Curl sponsored the first Australian professional surfing event, the Rip Curl Pro. By 1977 the company was also making wetsuits for windsurfers, sailors and water skiers. In 1981 they established their first international licencee in California and have licencees in USA, France, South Africa, Japan, Indonesia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Chile.

Scope and content

Beige cotton wide corduroy trousers. Relaxed straight leg trousers with large slanted patch pockets. The two front pockets are reinforced using metal rivets which have the Rip Curl emblem embossed onto it. Bar tacks are used to strengthen the seam at the bottom of both pockets. Thicker belt loops have been bar tacked onto the waist band which also includes a draw string feature, that can be fastened at the centre front. The trouser hem is turned up and top stitched in a dark brown thread, whilst the side seams are over locked and top stitched. There are five concealed button fly front uses press studs, the stud design consists of the Rip Curl logo in the centre of the press stud with brand text encircling this. There is a back yoke on the trouser which has been top stitched in dark brown sewing thread and two patch pockets with mitred corners. Made in Bulgaria,
