        History

        Rip Curl was started in 1969 by Doug Warbrick and Brian Singer in Torquay, Victoria, Australia when they began to make surf boards. Later that year they also began producing wetsuits. In 1973 Rip Curl sponsored the first Australian professional surfing event, the Rip Curl Pro. By 1977 the company was also making wetsuits for windsurfers, sailors and water skiers. In 1981 they established their first international licencee in California and have licencees in USA, France, South Africa, Japan, Indonesia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Chile.
