Scope and content

High waisted tailored trousers with double pleats. Fly fastens with five hidden buttons, and centre front closes with a hidden button and hook and bar. Both fly facings are seamed to make complete piece. Each side seam has a hidden pocket. There are four buttons on the front and two on the back for braces buttoning. The back right has a single welt pocket and button. The left side has a strip of stitching remaining from a label. Trousers have a wide turn up hem. The inside seams are raw. Made in the United Kingdom.

      Note

      Part of a Second World War Demob suit. Issued to a man on his demobilisation from the British and allied armed services after the Second World War. Due to clothes rationing, they would not have been able to buy a suit or enough clothing to replace their military wardrobe, and a demob suit was issued to aid re entering civilian life. The suit was offered as part of a package, including extra clothing coupons, cigarette coupons, rail travel allowance, underwear, shirt, hat, shoes and a raincoat.
