The company was formed by John B. Stetson in Philadelphia in 1865. It went out of business in 1970 but Stetson hats have continued to be made under licence by other companies since then.

Grey wool felt trilby hat. The hat has a wide black grosgrain ribbon around the crown with a flat bow on the left side. The inside hat band is made of tan coloured leather with makers and retailers (Aitkinsons) marks. The crown of the hat is lined in cream rayon with a clear plastic layer over the top of the inner crown with the Stetson coat of arms and name in gold lettering. There is a tag with the size: STETSON 7 on one end of the leather hat band.
