Scope and content

Photograph of lake-shore gardens of the Polytechnic Chalets, Seeburg. Tree-lined path with deck chairs, two with occupants. Used.

Annotated on verso: '25-8-29. Polytechnic Chalets, Seeburg, Lucerne. We three are having a delightful holiday, leaving home on Aug [18] for 2 nights to Paris, 14 Lucerne, 2 Brussels. It was hot in Paris but we did a lot of sightseeing. One or two days last week were wet & misty and excursions cancelled. The others are doing more going about than I can and are going to the Rhone Glacier, but it is really lovely here with gardens right on the lake as you will see. Our room looks straight over it to Pilatus. All rooms are full and there are dances, whist drives, etc. A service on Sun[day] eve. Irene is delighted with everything. Writing in old cow-sty and with fountains, [?], flowers, white pigeons, etc. Many thanks for letters. [illegible signature].' Addressed to: Mrs Phillipson, College House, Dollis Avenue, Finchley N3, England. Stamped and postmarked 26 August 1929.
