History
Established by the Finance and General Purposes Committee in July 1971. Its purpose was to make recommendations to the Court of Governors in respect of candidates for the PCL professoriate.
Called the Professoriate Recommending Committee 1971-1990s. It then became the Professoriate Committee.

First members were respected academics from universities, specialist advisers and lay members of the court. They were appointed by the Finance and General Purposes Committee on the recommendation of the Professoriate Formation Committee. The Committee operated for 4 years with this structure of membership. 1975 structure changed slightly more members added from the professoriate, reduction of external members.
Members: 1979: Chairman of Court, 2 lay governors, the rector, 6 members of PCL professoriate, 6 distinguished professors/academics from outside PCL, a student member, secretary.
