1. Photograph of H V L Ross and T Payne in the 1909 London to Brighton Road Walking Race. On the left is T Payne, North Shields Poly and on the right H V L Ross, Tooting A.C; The name 'Pa' written on this photograph points out that this older gentleman is W M Tombleson, AKA Pa Tombleson, father of H G Tombleson (pictured on page 10 of the album). He appears again on pages 14, 37, 42, 45 and 56 of the album and is mentioned in the Polytechnic Magazine as a 'limit man.’ Ross took first place and Payne second place. The Oxo Motors can be seen in the background. 145x100mm.
