Part of Herbert Allingham

Headed notepaper: The Amalgamated Press Ltd., The Fleetway House, Farringdon Street, London EC4. Signed. Addressed to 58 Thorpe Hall Avenue, Thorpe Bay, Essex.
'I think your instalment of the Family Journal story is excellent this week. The curtain I thought, was a little vague, so I have taken the liberty of adding a bit to it, somewhat after the manner of the enclosed. I thought it better to send you this so that you could lead off it.
I also thought it better in this instalment someone should recognise John Wayne as the ex-convict. I am hoping you will agree, and I am looking forward to the next number. You will be intersted to know that we had a tremendous success with teh Family Journal Boom this week. We went out on a little cotton dust cap and this story.'

Manuscript postscript: 'Payment for the 3 instalments of the other story will be made next week. I'm afraid I overlooked them.'

Attached: [proposed additional text mentioned above]
The eyes of Michael Power lost thir sleepy gaze and his hands clutched the arms of his chair.
He knew this man.
What was he - an ex-convict - doing here in this house?
Again he looked into the eyes of John Wayne.
He smiled.
The clearing up of the mystery of Joe Bradfield's death was going to be very easy .... VERY EASY INDEED!

'I was entranced with my instalment this week. I loved the doctor!!!
BUT - The last three instalments have finished on the note of someone about to give John Wayne up to the police. I know we decided to make him a hunted man but I just thought that perhaps I ought to point this out.'

'I am writing on behalf of Mrs Cooper as she is unable to do so herself at the moment. I am sorry to say she has been ordered away by her doctor for a few weeks' complete rest to ward off a breakdown that would otherwise be imminent.
In the meantime, therefore, would you be good enough to address your manuscripts to: F.W. Blackmore, Esq., Room 126. Mrs Cooper asks me to add that the instalments you write will be sent on to her - to brighten her up and act as a tonic. So, to use her own words: 'make them good'!
I feel certain myself that a week or two's rest will work wonders with Mrs Cooper, and I shall let you have a bulletin as soon as I get one myself.
In the meantime, may I send you my very best wises for a Happy New Christmas and a Bright New Year.?'
