London Fire Brigade Jacket

Black jacket with high stand collar and hi-viz reflective strips. The jacket has a throat guard across the front neck of the collar and a wide placket covering the centre front fastening. It has a black plastic clip attachment sewn to the centre front chest and two velcro fastening loops on the front. The sleeves have additional inner cuffs made of black rib knit bands with thumb loops. Around the chest hem and the bottom of the sleeves are wide bands of yellow hi-vis with a centre stripe of silver reflective material. On the right chest and right arm printed in white are the letters L F B in squares over 'LONDON FIRE BRIGADE'. On the left sleeve is an angled flapped pocket with a printed badge emblem of the London Fire Brigade. The back of the jacket has two vertical strips of yellow hi-viz with silver reflective strips down each side and a stripe around the bottom hem. Across the upper back is printed 'FIRE' in silver reflective material. Designer unknown

Pair of faded black cotton trousers with vertical red and white stripes down each outside leg . The stripes have been created by sashiko stitching with three lines of red stitching flanked by one line of white stitching on each side. They have belt loops and a separate black waist tie. They fasten with a metal zip fly with 'YZIP' engraved on the tab and a metal hook and bar fastening with 'DEPONIRT' on the bar and 'TRADE MARK' and a three pointed crown on the hook. There are two front side hip pockets with vertical openings. Designed to be worn by firemen for fire fighting, mid twentieth century (Showa period). Designer unknown

Thick wool/wool blend Firefighters trousers. They have a high waist, with a thick waistband, button fly with 6 buttons, and has buttons in sets of fours for braces inside the waistband which has two chrome cinch belts at the front. thick cotton drill pocket lining, and a cargo leg pocket with button flap on left side. The trouser back has two pockets with flaps and buttons.

Black horsehide peacoat worn as part of a Second World War fireman's uniform. It has a high double breasted lapel which fastens to the neckline for protection and has reinforced shoulders and back yoke. It has six silver buttons embossed with 'NFS' on the front which are back stamped with 'Firmin London'. There are two button on the cuff strap which are decorative only. The right side attaches to an adjustable strap on the inside of the jacket with a popper fastening. The jacket is fully lined. There are no labels.
