For warding off evil. Zhong Kui is a mythical character, also known as the 'Ghost catcher.' He is known as a vanquisher of ghosts and evil beings. His image is often painted on household gates as a guardian spirit. In this image he is dressed in Daoist tobes and hats and tabs, surrounded by half-naked demons and ghosts.
