Scope and content
Marshal Liu Bocheng (1892-1986) was one of the army's top strategists and theoriticians. While he stood next to Mao on the Tiananmen rostrum when Mao proclaimed the new republic, Liu never truly gained Mao's trust, and he career suffered as a result. He largely withdrew from politics after 1959, citing reasons of ill-health. He is one of the 10 Marshals of China.
