Marshall Nie Rongzhen (1899-1992), one of the 10 Marshals of China, held a series of high level roles in the Red Army during the Sino-Japanese War, the Civil War, and the Korean War. After the Cultural Revolution, he became vice chairman of the Military Central Committee, and the vice chairman of the National People's Congress.
