Scope and content

Headed notepaper: The Amalgamated Press Ltd., Editorial Department, The Fleetway House, Farringdon Street, London EC4. Signed.
'Home Companion. Family Journal: Your suggestion for the development of my new story took my breath away when I read it first of all! Then I realised the wonder of it and think it is really splendid; it will make a great story. The only thing I would ask you not to do is elaborate John Brand’s weakness (women). I think it would be quite enough if his affair with Julia was his only one, and if it was Julia, herself, who brought it on. However, this is not a big point and in your own inimitable way you will gloss nicely over anything of this sort.
As desired I am returning your letter and shall look forward so very much to seeing number 3.'

Manuscript annotation: 'Instalment 2 is excellent.'
