The first of five volumes dedicated to the study of the Antiquities of Athens. It contains descriptive and critical text, accompanied by original etchings of drawings, scaled elevations, sections and plans of a series of buildings and architectural details. Subjects included: General View of Athens; Doric Portico at Athens; Ionic Temple on the Ilisus; Octagon Tower of Andronicus Cyrrestes; Tower of the Winds; Choragic Monument of Lysicrates or Lanthorn of Demosthenes; Stoa or Portico supposed to be the remains of the Temple of Jupiter Olympus.
