Scope and content

The fourth volume of a series of books on general architecture. It consists of books XII-XVI comprising numerous chapters on decorative constructions and the architectural profession. The focus is on the main types of commemorative edifices (columns, crosses, statues, triumphal arches), decorations (fountains, public streets, gardens, halls and staircases), military and rural architecture and their characteristics. The volume finishes with a selection of texts on the role and responsibilities of the architect. The texts are accompanied by various drawings, photographs, plans, elevations and sections, some to scale.
