Administrative history
The original R W Forsyth set up in business as hosier, glover and shirt maker at 5-7 Renfield Street in Glasgow in 1872. In 1897, the business expanded to take over the corner of Gordon Street. Often just known as Forsyth's, the business expanded and opened stores at 26-30 Princes Street and 3 St Andrew Square in Edinburgh in 1906 and at Vigo House near Regent Street in London in 1925. Increasing overheads led the company to closed in 1983 after 111 years. RW Forsyth Ltd was still in family ownership when it ceased trading.
