Scope and content
Waterproof coat made from a black PVC oilskin material. Coat has a short collar which is lined with a black wool. Coat fastens at the front via three, brown buttons on a concealed button placket [one button missing] and a fourth which is visible just below the collar on the right side. Two patch pockets with flaps are found to the front. The coat has a straight sleeve with no cuff and a rear vent which fastens with a single button.

As well as being worn by the Royal Navy, this style of coat was popular with fishermen and dockers amongst others who had to work outside in wet and windy conditions.
The coat is designed to be worn as an outer layer and is therefore cut in a generous, wide manner.
