Scope and content

Silk waistcoat with a shawl collar. Waistcoat is double breasted and fastens at the front via four black, glass buttons two on each side. Each button is functional and fastens through a buttonhole on the opposing side of the waistcoat opening. The black silk used at the front of the waistcoat has a vertical stripe patterned stitched into it, also in black. The repeating pattern consists of a 3mm pinstripe, followed by three lines of thinner, broken stipes [each line that makes up these broken stripes is 0.5cm in length], followed by another 3mm pinstripe. The reverse of the waistcoat is made from plain, black silk. On the reverse, there are two long tabs at the waist made in the same fabric for adjustment using an ornately designed metal buckle. The inside of the waistcoat is lined in cotton. The hemline of the waistcoat is lower at the front than at the back. The front hem is slightly rounded. There are two small vents at each side hem.
