Manchester-born John Richmond (1960-) designed his first collection under his own name after he graduated from Kingston in 1982 while also freelancing for Joseph Tricot, Emporio Armani and Fiorucci. He launched Richmond-Cornejo with Maria Cornejo in 1984 and re-established his own label after their partnership ended in 1987, taking over their shop in Newburgh Street in London's Soho. He launched a lower priced line, Destroy, in February 1990 and in 1998 designed 'John by John Richmond' for department store Debenhams. He became known particularly for his leather jackets, club wear and for dressing rock and pop musicians.

Administrative history

Hanes was founded by John Wesley Hanes in 1900 as Shamrock Knitting Mills in North Carolina to make knitted hosiery and underwear. It was named Hanes Hosiery Mills Company in 1914. The company has had many changes of ownership, since 2006 the label has been part of HanesBrands Inc.

White cotton Hanes long sleeved T-shirt printed with a black and white design by John Richmond for i-D magazine. The T-shirt has a high round neck with a white rib band and wide rib bands around the sleeve cuffs. The print design on the front chest is of nine gothic crosses or crucifixes with arrow points filled with images of faces and words from i-D covers and pages. In the centre bove the crosses is 'JOHN RICHMOND' and below centre is 'hard core religion to a dance beat.' in gothic script. At the bottom right is the i-D logo in a star and circle with 'worldwi-De copyright' and ©.
