Khaki long shopkeepers coat made from a heavy sanforized pre shrunk drill. There is a large patch pocket on the left chest, separated with a single line if topstitching to create a tool compartment, with curved lower edge, and on both sides a large patch pocket on the lower body. There is a large top stitched welt opening, covering a double jetted opening to access Trousers pockets on both sides about the lower patch pocket. The centre front has four brown pinhead shank buttons with back stabiliser ring and washer. This style of button is to allow removal for garment cleaning. There is twin needle top stitching on pocket edging, sleeve seam, shoulder seam, centre back and side seam. The lapel and collar have a single line of stitching set in from the edge. The hem is double turned with single topstitching. The sleeve has a small curved edge vent opening, secured bar tack. The sleeve cuff is finished with a wide facing and single edge top stitching. Empire made.

This shopkeeper's long coat is made from a heavy sanforized cotton drill. ’Sanforized’ is a term trademarked by Sanford Lockwood Cluett, and patented in 1930, for a method of preshrinking fabric using steam, moisture and pressure via a heated stretched rubber cylinder. The coat has four pinhead shank buttons with back stabiliser rings and washers, allowing the buttons to be quickly removed before cleaning.
