HAND-PAINTED COAT
Liam Hodges
2013
This hand-painted nylon and wool coat formed part of Hodges’ pre-collection, created before his Royal College of Art MA graduate collection. It is a hybrid of a nylon MA1 jacket and a wool military-style coat and has a surface pattern that is a mixture of sublimation printing and hand-colouring using ink pens.

HAND-PAINTED MA-1 COAT
Liam Hodges
2013
This hand-painted nylon and wool coat is a hybrid of a nylon MA-1 jacket and a heavy wool military-style coat, featuring a surface pattern created by combining sublimation printing and hand-applied ink pen colouring. The coat was part of Liam Hodges’s 2013 pre-collection, which he designed before completing the MA Menswear programme at the Royal College of Art in London. The nylon sleeves have an exaggeratedly curved shape and extended, folded-back ribbed cuffs. In addition, the coat has pocket flaps, which reference the US Air Force L-2B jacket and later versions of the MA-1 jacket that feature these pocket flaps.
