              Waistcoat in a black velvet fabric. Waistcoat is front fastening via four cut steel buttons. At either side of the front opening sits a horizontal, welted pocket. The reverse of the waistcoat is made from a black silk fabric with a cinch fastening comprising of two silk tabs that can be tightened using a gold-coloured, base metal buckle. The waistcoat is lined with a cream, silk lining. There have been some alterations to the waistcoat, with two inserts into the side seams. Unknown

              Single breasted, V-neck waistcoat in a black woollen fabric. Waistcoat has no collar and is front fastening via six textured buttons. At the front of the waistcoat there are four, angled, welted pockets; one on either side of the chest and one on either side of the waist. To the reverse of the waistcoat there is a cinch fastening comprising of two tabs that thread through a buckle and that can be tightened depending on the fit that is required.               Waistcoat from a three piece brown Trevira and wool suit. It is single breasted with five buttons and has a low break point. The waistcoat has two angled welted pockets to waist, the one on the right has a factory label on the inside. It is lined in dark brown viscose and the back is made of the same. The back has two long vertical darts with two viscose tabs sewn into them at the waist, the tab on the left has a black metal buckle with two prongs. Hepworths

              Heavyweight waistcoat in a grey woollen fabric. Waistcoat is front fastening via six buttons. There are three, welted pockets at the front; two waist pockets on either side of the opening and a smaller, watch pocket which sits above the waist pocket on the left side. The inside of the waistcoat is lined in a striped fabric. Designer unknown

              Brown silk double breasted waistcoat with a roll collar. The silk has been woven to create a large check pattern with satin stripes, the squares of the checks are grosgrain with small blue dots. The fronts have been cut on the bias so that the checks are diagonal. The silk is in poor condition and has worn through in areas of rubbing leaving the cotton or linen warp threads.

              It fastens at the front with four self-covered buttons (show eight) and with one metal button on the inside. There are two welted pockets lined in cotton twill. The back and under collar is made of tan cotton twill. There are two tabs for waist adjustment folded in half in a horizontal V shape and with three pairs of small metal eyelets. They lace with a length of cotton tape.

              It is lined in plain white cotton with narrow dark brown leather strips at the hem of the fore parts and two small panels of grey silk under the arms. It has been altered to make it larger with panels inserted under the arms and the waist tabs moved. It has extensive staining under the arms, across the lower back and the front inside chest. The stains appear to be from sweat. All hand sewn.

              Short black silk twill waistcoat with square fronts. It fastens centre front with eight small self covered buttons and has a narrow collar. It has two front horizontal welted pockets at waist level. The back is made of black wool and has four brown cotton or linen adjustment ribbon ties at the centre back (three missing).               Hand made silk waistcoat with four double jetted pockets, two on each side. The front body is emboridered with two tone green vertical stripes on a cream background. The centre front edge, neckline and centre armhole are finished with dark green bias tape. The back of the waistcoat is a plain cream silk. The jacket fastens with 6 buttons with handstitched buttonholes. Three of the buttons have a smal metal rivet in the centre, the lower three are flat fronted.

              Black wool bespoke tailored evening waistcoat with deep shawl collar trimmed with fine black braid around the collar, pocket welts and the front bottom hem. It is lined with cream silk satin which has been hand stitched and the back is made of black silk (?) twill. Fastening at the centre front with three buttons and three hand finished buttonholes. Two functional pockets with welts on the bottom left and right front panels. The back has a V shaped notch in the bottom hem and two black silk (?) backstraps (tabs) which have been altered by hand stitching them down and fasten with a black lacquered metal two pronged buckle with 'BRITISH' on one side and 'ARMFIELD B'HAM' [Birmingham] on the other. Label hand stitched into the back of the left backstrap. Made by Billings & Edmonds Ltd of London and Godalming for A. E. Sursham.
