History
It reports to the Academic Council and has a formal link with the Academic Affairs Committee. Between 1985-1990/1991 it was responsible for the Hardships Committee. After 1991 when the Hardships Committee reported to the Resources Committee, the Student Affairs Committee retained a monitoring function. The Student Stafff Consultative Committee reported annually. In 1997 it was disbanded and in 1998 the Student Affairs Forum was set up to carry out similar duties.

Terms of reference: to advise Academic Council on all matters of Policy concerning the affairs of student welfare relating to health, counselling, careers, halls of residence, nursery and student accommodation; to advise Academic Council on matters of policy concerning Hardship Committee and budget; to receive reports on Hardships Committee and also student welfare areas, advise Academic Council on consultative papers regarding student welfare.
