Established in 1973. Sub-committee of the Academic Council in matters associated with research and as an agent of CNAA in respect of research degrees. 6 meetings a year.

Terms of Reference: advice the Academic Council on the mean of continuing and improving the establishment of a strong and balanced programme of research; advice the Academic Council on resources needed; advise the Rector on national research issues; encourage obtaining of external funds for research; advise the Academic Council on the development of institutional consultancy.

Members: every faculty must have at least 1 member; Chair of the Academic Council will appoint chair and 2 deputies, those who by research have contributed to their subject and have also supervised students through research projects. Members are to serve 3 years and 1/3 of members will retire each year.
