1. John McSorley of the Thames Valley Harriers after throwing a javelin a distance of 227 feet and 2 1/2 inches. The event was the Kinnaird Trophy Meeting on the 15th June 1963 at Chiswick. Colin Smith, also of the Thames Valley Harriers, threw the winning javelin that day with a distance of 232 feet 7 1/2 inches. Athletics weekly covered the competition in the 22nd June 1963 edition of their magazine, on page 26
