History
Oberon was founded in 1978 by Jack Hirschmann to make personal protective products. They collaborated with NASA on protection from UV radiation for astronauts and developed a process of applying a thin layer of gold to the visors. This led to Oberon's 'Gold Shield' to protect against radiant heat hazards which are found in workplaces such as foundries and steel mills.
In 1985 they invented the first Arc Flash face shield for electricity workers as part of a full arc flash suit.
