An old man writes couplets to celebrate the new year or Spring Festival (春节). He's currounded by children wearing highly decorative clothes. A mixture of modern and traditional symbolism, for example, the banner celebrates people's communes (人民公社), while the character on the square paper is a tradtional symbol of good fortune and happiness (福). Firecrackers are below the table, and a girl holds an elaborate lantern.
