Two strips. First is Zhang Hua (张华), who was a student at the Fourth People's Liberation Army Medical College until his death in 1982. He died rescuing an old peasant who had fallen into a manure pit. He is washing at a tap, with a bucket of medical equipment next to him. The second is Jiang Zhuying, a physicist who helped China develop colour television technology. He stands with a notebook in front of a series of computers. Part 2 of 5.

Two strips. The first is Zhu Boru (朱伯儒) an airforce member and CCP member from Wuhan. He recieved numerous awards and citations and was called one of the 'Lei Fengs of the 1980s' and made into a model for emulation. The second is another 'Lei Feng of the 1980s', Zhang Haidi. She became a paraplegic at the age of five following four operations for the removal of tumors in her spine. She never attended school, but through diligent self-study became highly educated. Other 'Lei Fengs of the 1980s' included Jiang Zhuying and Zhang Hua. Part 5 of 5.

Marshall Peng Dehuai (1989-1974) was the Minister of Defense until he was purged in 1959 after coming into conflict with Mao at the Lushan Conference. He was a major target during the Cultural Revolution and died in prison. He was post-humously rehabilitated by Deng Xiaoping.

Marshal Chen Yi

Chen Yi (1901-1972), one of the 10 Marshals of China, was Major of Shanghai in the 1950s before becoming Foreign Minister in 1958. While he was heavily criticised during the Cultural Revolution, he was never formally dismissed from his position. Mao attended his 1972 funeral, which was the Chairman's last public appearance.

Marshal Ye Jianying (1897-1986) played a role in Mao's ascent to Communist Party power during the Long March, after he sided with Mao instead of Zhang Guotao. He was one of the 10 Marshals of China, but lost his political power in the 1950s after he was perceived to be soft on class struggle. He became Defense Minister in 1975 and was crucial in the overthrow of the Gang of Four and the installation of Hua Guofeng.

Marshal Zhu De (1886-1976) was one of the pioneers of the Communist Party and is considered the founder of the People's Liberation Army. During the Sino-Japanese War and the Civil War, Zhu was the Commander-in-Chief of the Red Army, and he was later named one of the 10 Marshals of China.
