Short vest in a green polyester fabric. Vest has a front fastening which is concealed under a storm flap; has a high collar and no sleeves. At the front there is a rubber patch on either side of the chest and a rectangular, map pocket with a flap beneath this at either side of the opening. At the side seams, there are laces. The MK31 life preserver features a large collar housing an orange rubber bladder, or stole, which inflates via a CO2 cylinder to serve as a flotation device. Constructed from flame-resistant material, it includes multiple pockets designed for storing essential survival gear. The preserver is equipped with a whistle, a heliograph mirror for signalling the wearer’s location, and an inflation tube for manual reinflation of the bladder if needed.

This suit, made from polyester and nylon, is equipped with a hose connector that attaches to the aircraft’s anti-G system, allowing it to inflate and deflate a series of internal air bladders along the abdomen and legs. When inflated, these bladders apply pressure to the abdomen and legs, tightening the fabric around the sides and back of the legs to counteract the effects of G-forces. A manufacturer’s label with Chinese characters and a date in Western Arabic numerals is located inside the right shoulder.
