      History

      A Liberal Democrat politician, Huhne was narrowly beaten by Nick Clegg in the party's 2007 leadership contest. In 2010 Huhne became Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change as part of the coalition government. In 2012 he resigned from the cabinet, having been charged with perverting the course of justice. Following his conviction in 2013, Huhne also stepped down from parliament.
