History
The Department for Education and Employment's (DFEE) Enterprise in Higher Education (EHE) initiative was introduced to ensure that students in higher education (HE) should become life-long learners and be better prepared for working life. It aimed to do this by helping higher education institutions (HEIs) to: develop students' transferable skills; incorporate appropriate work-relevant and work-based learning; encourage students to take greater responsibility for their own learning.
Each HEIwas free to produce its own proposals to achieve this but all were expected to deliver EHE through the key processes of: staff development; curriculum development; permeation throughout the entire institution; employer partnerships; student participation.
The DFEE provided funds to individual institutions for five years, by which time HEIs were expected to have adopted measures to ensure that EHE is self-sustaining.
