        History

Hardy Amies began designing menswear in 1958 with silk ties for Michelsons and shirts for Radiac. In 1961 he was approached by Hepworths, a Leeds-based multiple tailor, to design a range of tailored outerwear for them. This became hugely successful, by 1964 his menswear was turning over about £15 million, while his womenswear was only £0.75 million. He also licenced his name for menswear lines internationally. His partnership with Hepworths lasted until the late 1970s.
