1994–2020
Turkish-Cypriot designer Hussein Chalayan (b. 1970) set up his eponymous womenswear label in 1994 following his graduation from Central Saint Martins in 1993 with his collection ‘The Tangent Flows’. He has produced collections for the New York cashmere company TSE (1998–2001), and in 2000 for UK high-street retailers Top Shop and Marks & Spencer. In 1999 and 2000 he was named British Designer of the Year and was awarded an MBE for services to the fashion industry in 2006. He launched his first menswear collection in July 2002, which was manufactured by Italian company Gibo.
