The company had its origins in a chain of pharmacies. In 1968 it first used the name Respirex for an oxygen resuscitator unit, in the late 1970s the company started manufacturing chemical protective clothing for the petrochemical industry and made their first gas-tight suit. They developed their Chemprotex suit for the NHS in 2000 and specialist protective boots in the 2010s.

Label established by British designer Nick Coleman who graduated from St Martins School of Art in the mid-1980s. The label was known for tailoring until the early 1990s when it became influenced by the London club culture and rave scene.

Shop opened 56/8 Kings Road, London in 1894. They stayed at this address until 1929 when the row of shops was pulled down and became a Sainsburys. H.H. Wagstaff's remained on the Kings Road, trading in a different location.

1872-1983
The original R W Forsyth set up in business as hosier, glover and shirt maker at 5-7 Renfield Street in Glasgow in 1872. In 1897, the business expanded to take over the corner of Gordon Street. Often just known as Forsyth's, the business expanded and opened stores at 26-30 Princes Street and 3 St Andrew Square in Edinburgh in 1906 and at Vigo House near Regent Street in London in 1925. Increasing overheads led the company to closed in 1983 after 111 years. RW Forsyth Ltd was still in family ownership when it ceased trading.
