English architect, archaeologist and astronomer. He was Surveyor of the Fabric of St Paul's Cathedral, President of the Royal Institute of British Architects and Director of the British School at Athens.

An extensive investigation of the principles of Athenian Architecture. It concentrates on illustrating the results of a survey conducted with reference to the optical refinements exhibited in the construiction of the ancient buildings at Athens. There are numerous engravings of measurements, sectiones and elevations, some at scale. Buildings included are: Parthenon; Acropolis of Athens; Athenian Buildings and Temples; Athenian Propylaea; Theseum; Temple of Jupiter Olympus; Erechtheum; Temple of Nemea.
