A collection of plates illustrating the development of Formal Gardens in England and Scotland, from the Earliest Medieval Period to the close of Seventeenth Century. It shows their planning, arrangement, architectural and ornamental features in seventy-two drawings by the author and fifty-three reproductions from photographs.
