Canterbury began in the mid-1920s as the brand name for finely knitted woollen underwear made by Lane Walker Rudkin Limited (LWR) in Ashburton, New Zealand. Into the 1930s they expanded by manufacturing rayon and cotton knitwear as well as swimwear and sportswear, including developing a cotton rugby jersey which became a signature product. In 2009 the company went into receivership and the Canterbury brand was purchased by Pentland Group in 2012.

Dark yellow mustard coloured printed cotton short sleeved shirt with white towelling lining and insert pockets. It is printed in an all over foulard print in red and brown. The pocket welts, collar, front facings and cuffs are made of plain dark mustard yellow coarsely woven cotton. It fastens centre front with four silver and black metal buttons. Woven label in the back of the neck with flying fish emblem. Size 40. Looped over the top button was the original tag (in Object File): Style C.535 (C.534 unlined) / Size: 40 / Colour: Bronze / L.W.R. 215 Made in N.Z.
